| Looks like art and culture is taking the front seat this weekend as Vishwadha Chander brings to you some interesting events to check out… All in the hands’ work Giving an impetus to hand made products, the Handmade Collective’s second edition will play host to 23 artisans from around the country showcasing their handcrafted goods and traditional art this weekend. The event is being organised by A Hundred Hands, a not-for profit trust that makes is simpler for artisans to sell their goods and to also spread awareness of handcrafted products, thereby increasing the dialogue between the consumer and the artisan. Mala Gupta, founder-trustee of A Hundred hands, says, “There is resurgence for traditional goods today, in the midst of all the mass produced commodities that surround us.” She says that her goal is to build awareness of the process, of what goes into the art, “People may gain a higher appreciation for it. The three world concert BFlat and Radio Indigo present music from the three corners of the world. On an Indian tour, Indian tabla Maestro Fazal Qureshi, brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain, Swedish saxophonist and flutist Anders Hagberg and Palestinian Ahmad Al Khatib on the oud come together to perform an eclectic mix Indian ragas, middle-eastern Makam, European jazz and Swedish folk music. Innovative instruments The Joint United Nations HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), as a part of the Getting to Zero initiative is organizing a concert with Toumani Diabate and Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt. The Getting to Zero initiative aims to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care and to also halt and reverse the spread of HIV. UNAIDS International Goodwill ambassador and Grammy award-winnier Toumani Diabate will be performing along with Indian slide guitar maestro Padmashri Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, accompanied by Sahil Bhatt. Toumani Diabate will be playing his trademark tunes, a blend of West African music traditions along with modern ones from across the world in combination with Indian elements by Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt. The evening promises to be one of great innovation in music. Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt is the creator of the Mohan Veena or the Indian slide guitar, an instrument that has been adapted from the traditional guitar. This essentially western instrument will used to play Hindustani classical musical. Toumani Diabate introduced the kora, a 21-string harp flute and will be playing his tunes on it. Now it’s 5D KH Kala Soudha along with Pra.Ka.Sam will be presenting a first of its kind in Kannada theatre- a 5D performance. The play titled 13 Margosa Mahal will involve and stimulate all five senses of the audience. Directed by P D Sathish Chandra, the plot is primarily a comic horror and revolves around a paid vacation gone wrong for three IT professionals. The director, who also happens to run the KH Soudha says, “We are going all out in making this play a memorable one for the audience through the 5D experience.” The play has been co-authored by Chandan Shankar. Along with spine chilling horror and rib-tickling fun, the audience can look forward to the play’s background score composed by Raghu Dixit. The 5D technique is sensory-motor driven story telling, and focuses on production from the most basic level.
