India is mourning the loss of Ghazal legend Jagjit Singh on Monday whose passing away created a vacuum in the world of music.

Singh was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Lilavati Hospital for the past week with brain hemorrhage. He was in coma since Sept 23.

Jagjit Singh's soul touching voice and his captivating fashion of giving life to ghazals had made him a house hold name. He literally broke the intellectual barrier and made Ghazal popular among the masses.

The world of Bollywood and other marked personalities reacted on his death since the news of his demise broke out in the morning.

Singer Pankaj Udhas said it was a big loss for the world of music. "His style was something incomparable, unparalleled. His voice was one in a billion.

He was full of passion, life and humour, said Udhas.

"I have some amazing memories spending time with him. He was full of humour compassion. He never said I am tired. In the age of 70 he was so active," Udas said.

Pop diva Usha Uthup was devastated.

"It is a horrible feeling. For 42 years of singing we know him. What a wonderful human being. He brought ghazal in every common man's life and into living room of every common man," Usha Uthup reacted.

Singer Rashid Khan feels that another Jagjit Singh will not be 'born'.

"Another Jagjit Singh will not take birth. It is sad that he passed away," Rashid Khan said.

"The contribution he made to world music in incomparable," Khan said.

Actor Anupam Kher said people will remember him for his gentleness. "It was gentle, soothing and from the heart.," said Kher.

"Jagjit Ji (Jagjit Singh) passes away. One of the saddest day for all us music lovers. The golden voice will not sing anymore. Rest in peace." singer Shreya Ghoshal tweeted.

"A great friend passes away.It is sad we will not see him again. It feels as if my friends are passing away one after the other," singer Asha Bhonsle reacted.

"A heart tht captured millions thru poetry n song. G'bye Jagjit, dear friend," Oscar-winning director Shekhar Kapur tweeted.

"Another stalwart, Jagjit Singh, passes away. RIP," new-age director Farhan Akhtar reacted.

"Shocked to hear the golden voiced jagjit Singhji passed away ,we have lost our magnificent ghazal maestro & a wonderful human being," actor Celina Jaitley tweeted.

"Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh is no more. His songs were part of our lives. It is a terrible loss," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj tweeted after news of Singh's demise broke out this morning.

Jagjit Singh sung in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati,Sindhi and Nepali languages.

He was awarded with the Padma Bhushan, in 2003.

In his lifetime, Jagjit Singh had rendered his voice in innumerable soul-touching numbers like: 'Der lagi aane mein tumko', 'Apne hothon par sajaana chaahta hoon', 'Haath chhooten bhi to', 'Honthon se chhoo lo tum', 'Hoshwalo ko khabar', 'Kiska Chehera', 'Kal chodvi ki raat thi', 'Tumko dekha to yeh khayal', 'Woh kaaghaz ki kashti'.

'Samavedna' and Nayi Disha were two musical albums that witnessed the partnership of two legends- Jagjit Singh and former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Jagjit had sung the poetry composed by Vajpayee.

With the death of Singh the world of India music lost one of the greatest names and legends whose magical voice, handsome looks and charismatic personality will be remembered for ages.
