Tollywood Biglosses in 2011
23:54Tollywood has lost many stalwarts during the year 2011 from all the departments and the void remains unfulfilled. It was a tragic end for the director known for his comedy films when EVV Satyanarayana bid adieu in January. He died young and at the peak of his career, exactly like his mentor Jandhyala. His rib tickling films from ‘Pema Khaidi’ to ‘Kathi Kanta Rao’ had enthralled many and he introduced or gave good openings to many artistes. Two writers Mullapudi Venkata Ramana and Mallemala, who had seen the film industry’s transformation through five decades, have put in the final dot this year bringing an end to ‘Dothi’ wearing writers’ generation. Mullapudi, along with Bapu, had given some astounding films to Tollywood from ‘Sakshi’ to the latest ‘Sri Rama Rajyam.’ In fact Ramana was known for penning dialogues having a punch laced with humor and lines having weight but sound very simple. Strong message with simple words has been his forte. He created the character of the naughty boy Budugu and Appa Rao, who lives on taking loans, which is his passion. In his last days Ramana wrote a serial ‘Kothi Kommachi,’ which is a semi biography and created a storm in literary circles when he defined copyright as a right to copy from other’s works and named some major hit films and their original versions. Mallemala too had created a sensation with his book ‘Naa Ishtam’ and made some remarks against contemporary top stars. He was also a producer, actor and director. His son Shyam Prasad Reddy is a producer as well. Another poet Jaladi too left the world. His rural stream of poetry even in film songs will remain afresh as he redefined the art of writing film songs by identifying some 64 words which are often used in songs. He kept away from those words in songs as far as possible which made him very popular. Choreographer Salim died in Chennai this year. Three Chief Ministers of two states, MGR, NTR, Jayalalithaa, danced to his tunes but Salim fumbled in the final step and fell flat in the lap of destitution. Mikkilineni, whose contribution to film and theatre is well recognition also passed this year. Nutan Prasad, who had a sway over Tollywood with his dialogue delivery and mannerisms had a near fatal accident while shooting for a film and became immobile. Turning the wheel chair to a will chair, he still made his contribution to the film land and theatre in his humble way and in the process breathed his last. Among artistes, the icon of Hyderabad, Rami Reddy and bi-lingual Sujatha passed away. Producer Dasari Padma was the other celebrity to go to unknown shores this year. She produced many hit films that her husband has directed. Tollywood also missed dialogue writer Gandham Nagaraju, music director Anil and lyricist Kaluva Sai during the year. Besides director VR Pratap there must have been many unsung technicians and junior artistes who must have passed away without being noticed. |
The Twelve Days of Tube-Mas: 5 Tough Chicks We Love News,Images
23:52TV is full of badass babes who solve crimes and wield guns just like the boys. And, unlike the boys, they manage to do it all while still looking smoking hot.
That's why today's "12 Days of Tube-Mas" feature is all about our favorite TV tough chicks. In honor of all of the great gifts that TV has given us, every day until December 25th you'll get a little something special in your stocking. No lumps of coal here — just fun TV treats to help you pass the time until Santa comes sneaking down your chimney. So sing it with us now:
On the fifth day of Tube-Mas my true love gave to me...
1. Castle's Kate Beckett (Stana Katic)
Detective Kate Beckett has survived her mother's murder, a sniper bullet, and legions of killers who don't want to be caught. She's tough as nails in the interrogation room, but not afraid to show off her softer side to the people she cares about (like a certain crime novelist/partner).

2. Fringe's Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv)
No matter which parallel universe she's currently residing in, Olivia (or "Fauxlivia") is the kind of tough gal that you definitely want on your side. She's a driven, intelligent FBI Agent with a mysterious past that links her to the "Fringe" cases that she investigates, and we trust her to protect us in every dimension.

3. Nikita's Nikita (Maggie Q)
Nikita is out to bring down the Division that stripped her of her identity and killed her fiancé, and she's using any means necessary to do it. Though she's top-notch when it comes to firearms, the martial arts trained assassin can also kick some major butt with just her body.

4. Dexter's Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter)
We definitely wouldn't want to mess with this foul-mouthed tomboy, and not just because her brother is a serial killer. But it looks like things are about to get very complicated for Deb: in the season 6 finale she [**SPOILER**] caught Dexter in the act of murdering the Doomsday Killer.

5. NCIS' Ziva David (Cote de Pablo)
After a stint in the Israeli Army, this badass babe worked as a Mossad assassin. She can speak several different languages, shoot you from hundreds of yards away, and solve crimes with ease. But she still can't seem to admit her feelings for Tony Dinozzo...

North Korea Leader Kim Jong Dead
23:00North Korea’s neighbours and the wider world were last night nervously awaiting any dangerous developments after the sudden death of leader Kim Jong-il.
The 69-year-old head of the nuclear-armed nation was said to have suffered a massive heart attack on his luxury private train on Saturday morning.
Communist officials announced that his youngest son Kim Jong-un, a James Bond fan, would be his “great successor”.
South Korea and Japan put their armies on high alert and US officials were “closely monitoring” the situation amid fears Jong-un could launch an attack to prove his strength as new leader.
There were unconfirmed reports the country had test-fired a missile off its eastern coast – amid fears a power struggle between the military and politicians could destabilise the secretive country.
Victor Cha, a former US National Security Council director, added: “The most likely scenario for regime collapse has been the sudden death of Kim Jong-il. We are now in that scenario.”
Jong-il suffered a stroke in 2008 and had slowly been transferring power to his youngest son.
But his death – which was kept quiet for 48 hours – still came as a shock to North Koreans and Western governments. State TV showed North Koreans crying and breaking down hysterically – although it is believed much of the footage was stage-managed by Communist chiefs.
The news was announced on state TV and by the official Korean Central News Agency just after midday local time.
Jong-il’s funeral – expected to be attended by more than a million mourners – will take place in capital Pyongyang on December 28. Government officials declared a period of national mourning from December 17 to 29.
State TV warned “entertainment” will be banned during the mourning period. Jong-il will lie in state in Kumsusan Palace – where the embalmed body of his father Kim Il-sung, whom he succeeded in 1994, is still on display.
Western governments have repeatedly tried to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions. But there are fears Jong-un will ignore their pleas to avoid being seen as a weak leader by his people.
Foreign Secretary William Hague urged Jong-un to recognise that talks with the international community offered the best hope of improving the lives of his people. He said: “This could be a turning point. We encourage North Korea to work for peace.”
South Korea is still technically at war with the North and convened an emergency security meeting after Jong-il’s death.
The US has nearly 30,000 troops in South Korea, whose leader Lee Myung-Bak spoke to Barack Obama by phone yesterday. A spokesman said: “The two leaders agreed to closely co-operate and monitor the situation.”
Korean international relations expert Lee Jung-hoon warned: “Whenever it experiences instability, North Korea likes to divert attention elsewhere – including indulging in provocation.”

World leaders are now keeping an anxious eye on North Korea – which has a 1.2million-strong army. Bill Richardson, former US ambassador to the UN said: “The situation could become extremely volatile. What the North Korean military does in the next 24-48 hours will be decisive.”Victor Cha, a former US National Security Council director, added: “The most likely scenario for regime collapse has been the sudden death of Kim Jong-il. Top 10 Hotties: Vidya leads Bollywood's female pack
05:32We list the top 10 actresses who swept the audience away in 2011:
1. Vidya Balan: She started the year with a stellar performance as a deglamorised, strong-willed simpleton in the real-life inspired "No One Killed Jessica", and featured in cameos in "Thank You", "Dum Maaro Dum" and Malayalam film "Urumi".
But for the 33-year-old 'bombaat' actress, 2011 ended with a bang with her sizzling portrayal of a dancing star, Silk, in "The Dirty Picture". Vidya explored new realms to her acting potential, and emerged as a winner, overshadowing other commercially hit Bollywood divas.
2. Kareena Kapoor: Two films and both hits! Even after over a decade, Kareena stood out among her contemporaries with the record-breaker "Bodyguard" opposite Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan's mega-production "RA.One". She also proved her dancing mettle once again with "Chammak challo", which went on to be a huge chartbuster.
3. Priyanka Chopra: After an average 2010, Priyanka Chopra sprang back into action by carrying out seven different looks in Vishal Bharadwaj's critically-acclaimed "7 Khoon Maaf".
4. Katrina Kaif: As a free-spirited, independent girl in the multi-starrer "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", as a sexy item girl in "Bodyguard" or as the effervescent Dimple Dixit in "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan", this Britain-born girl has been proving her range with every passing year.
5. Kalki Koechlin: With four diverse films -- "Shaitan", "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", "That Girl in Yellow Boots" and "My Friend Pinto" - Kalki has been on a roll this year!
Her easy and fluid portrayal of a mentally disturbed girl, a nagging girlfriend, a girl in search of her father, and a lost girl abandoned by her boyfriend, have reassured cine-buffs of her capacity as a new age, commercially-viable actress, who dares to choose different roles.
6. Kangana Ranaut: Year 2011 saw Kangana in a new avatar. As a bindaas Kanpur girl in "Tanu Weds Manu", she gave her most desi performance ever.
She followed it up with the role of a cop in "Game", a supporting act in comedy films "Double Dhamaal" and "Rascals", and featured in "Miley Naa Miley Hum", which went unnoticed. However, Kangana's standing in the industry remains quite unaffected.
7. Rani Mukerji: Her fans got a treat after two years when Rani returned to the big screen in "No One Killed Jessica". As a bold journalist, who gets the public together to demand justice for a cause, Rani delivered an image-breaking performance when she mouthed expletives and smoked a cigarette for the role.
9. Deepika Padukone: At 25, Deepika has established herself as one of the more popular female stars of Hindi cinema. This year she strengthened her stance, not so much with her performances, but because of the elan with which she carried out the sultry song "Mit jaaye gum"; as the small town but confident girl in "Aarakshan"; and as the love interest of John Abraham in "Desi Boyz ".
10. Mahie Gill: Her films, "Utt Patang", "Not A Love Story" and "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" this year didn't mint enough money at the box office, but her performance, like always, was well noticed. The critically acclaimed actress continues to choose films away from tried-and-tested formulas, and garners appreciation galore.
